What more can we do?

 

Tonight I am very disturbed that the security measures they had couldn't save more kids. Thankful that our schools have lock down procedures and my kids know what to do. Fearful that it is not enough, our procedures are much like Sandy Hook almost exact and it still wasn't enough to save them.

Maybe our PTO's should shift their thinking to SAFETY before a new playscape or dry erase boards for each child.  Use dry erase markers on their desk, it wipes off.   Pay for security if the district cannot afford to do so. It would be nice if we could add security to our "No Child left behind" or create something new like "no more children shot at school.  A playscape means nothing to the kids who watched their friends and teachers die, and you can not wipe away the grief of a dead child like you can a dry erase board.

I believe all of the teachers at the schools that my kids go to have a stong parental instinct and will do all they can to keep these kids safe, sadly I don't believe that is enough.

I want security to check my purse when I walk in,I want to go though a metal detector and be escorted to the office as this should be the only place I need to go when entering a school. I wouldn't mind one bit, if that meant everyone else would be put through the same security precautions and I knew that no one would be able to get to my kids.

 

Holding them close tonight, and praying for healing for the families left behind.

Woo hoo, check that off the list!!! Personalized Holiday cards came in the mail today.  All I have to do now is add a personal note with holiday wishes, address the envelope,  seal the envelope, put a stinking stamp on the envelope and smile happily when I hand them to my mail carrier.

Feeling a little corny today

During a trip to our local farmers market I picked up exactly 32 ears of corn for $3! It is good corn too no bumps, bruises, or slime on the hairs.

Only one problem the freezer is full! Now I can't blanch and freeze these tasty little guys. :(

Out pops my awesome garage sale find: the dial-o-matic mark 4! Each cob easily slid across that knuckle slicing blade. With using just 15 cobs i was able to fill one zipper bag.

I have 18 cobs to go and I am going to have fresh frozen corn kernels as well as a couple of bags of cobbed corn that will last us hopefully until next summer.

Do you can or freeze fresh produce or herbs for use off season? What is the coolest thing you've canned, frozen or even dehydrated?

First post, trying this out.  want to see how well it works before I commit. The best advertisement is "word of mouth" and I would like to know what you think.   How well does this program really work for getting info to your friends and family.  I want to see some reviews before I have everything all set up and decide it is not for me.  Do you like the functionality of the program, does it help better than any other social site.  What do you think are some of the pro's of the program? Cons?

To Stockpile or Not to Stockpile?

I admit I stockpile but I swear I have not turned my sons bedroom into a toilet paper warehouse nor have I made a new chair in my living room out of soup cans. I stockpile only things that I know we will use before the end of the products shelf life and that are always in demand in our house. Some of the things I stock pile are Peanut butter, cereal, spaghetti sauce, laundry soap and ranch dressing

Here is how I started stockpiling....With 5 people in our family we go through a lot of laundry detergent, at least one bottle a week. I was spending about $6.00 a week on laundry detergent. The brand we normally use went on sale at a local store for $1.88 and I had four .50 off coupons. I bought four (1.88X4=7.52) minus my four coupons (.50x4=2.00). 7.52 - 2.00= 5.52 OOP. I paid 5.52 out of pocket which made each one only 1.38 each and I spent the same amount I would have buying only one the week before. I look at it like this> I bought one and got 3 free:)

Here is how I started stockpiling....With 5 people in our family we go through a lot of laundry detergent, at least one bottle a week. I was spending about $6.00 a week on laundry detergent. The brand we normally use went on sale at a local store for $1.88 and I had four .50 off coupons. I bought four (1.88X4=7.52) minus my four coupons (.50x4=2.00). 7.52 - 2.00= 5.52 OOP. I paid 5.52 out of pocket which made each one only 1.38 each and I spent the same amount I would have buying only one the week before. I look at it like this> I bought one and got 3 free:)
